CREATING NEW
Creating New is a magazine made to inspire people to create something out of their own broken tent. Literature research and iInterviews with relevant stakeholders suggests that most of the tents thrown away are put in the landfill. Recycling old tents is hard due to all the different fabrics, therefore upcycle companies can’t handle the amount of tents thrown away. This leaves an opportunity for the owner to create something out of their tent.
Inspired by the ‘bit old fashioned’ magazine Knip, this magazine is created to give background information on the tent waste industry and sewing. Additionally it gives 3 designs that can be sowed by the user. Each design includes a link to a Rhino Grasshopper file where the user can shape and design the object themselves. A sewing pattern can be printed and the objects can be made.
The objects have a variety in difficulty in regards to the level of sewing and the time it takes. This magazine is focussed on letting people realize what kind of materialistic and emotional value there still is in their products. By putting the fabric back into the environment a person can really see what this material is made for.
Featured at DDW 2025
During the Dutch Design Week 2025 in Eindhoven this project was presented at the Design Perron. This location offered space for promising graduate students. I had the opportunity to connect with fellow students, designers, other persons of interest and having good talks with allot of people.
