The New Makers is a company that focuses on circular construction of tiny houses and other building components. With their vision for circularity, they aim to transform the construction sector into a more sustainable industry. After all, construction accounts for 50% of waste and 26% of global CO₂ emissions. In addition, construction costs in the Netherlands continue to rise. The New Makers want to change this.
To build as circular as possible, they use a file-to-factory method during the design process. This method enables 100% digital production at The New Makers, allowing nearly all components to be assembled and disassembled. The buildings are largely made from renewable materials and residual waste streams. By using various CNC machines, The New Makers can develop complex innovations and then collaborate with local partners to realize these circular buildings.
With their vision on building I started my Final Bachelor Project, where I designed a partition wall that can be placed in various locations. After multiple iteration steps a combination of CNC’d wooden beams, CNC’d laminate plates and 3d printed parts was the outcome. As a final demonstrator a phone boot is created to show which connection point do work with this system. The whole phone booth can be constructed in 1 hour.
